SHIPPING CONTAINER OPERATIONS CONTROL
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
PNG LAE – Container Operations Control Role
Duties in this type of role may include some or all of the following:
- Booking and co-ordinating deliveries of containers arriving at, or leaving, depots, Terminals, Client Premise
- Liaising with Clients regarding their container requirements
- Entering information regarding deliveries and other logistical matters on computer Terminal systems such as N4 System SPICTL
- Ensuring health and safety requirements are met
The skills of Container Controller and Operations Service include:
- Strong team working skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as the role may involve liaison with Transport, customers, container terminal staff, and colleagues
- Ability to deal effectively with difficult customers
- Good organizational skills to prioritize a varied workload
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, and to concentrate on the job at hand during these pressurized moments
- Computer literacy, as the role might involve using a number of purpose-built computer systems, as well as a number of other software applications
- Good attention to detail to ensure correct information is recorded regarding deliveries and other matters
- A willingness to work non-standard hours, such as evenings and weekends if needed via phone interactions on container monitoring updates.
- A full driving license
- Receive empty containers list/instruction from Shipping Lines
- Alert depot of empty prospects/list/CRO for wharf preparations 5-7 days in advance
- Alert transport having a depot in the email conversation for pre-planning
- Send the pre-receive notice, and approved BCA & Container list a day or two in advance for depot/transport wharf delivery planning
- Follow up transport for the updates of trucks/delivery status/ chase transport by all means
- File overtime or approve late delivery penalty/overtime/ if and when Shipping Lines agrees to shoulder SPICTL charges in order to complete delivery (especially in LMW)
