Our Lihir operation in Processing Department is now recruiting for the position of Specialist – Permitting for FIFO role based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

Reporting to the Senior Specialist Permitting, this role will ensure Site Permit to Work and Isolation and Energy Control standards are always maintained. Provide support to Permit Issuers and Authorised isolators around their core function.

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Ensure personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements and policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Complete any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the Supervisor.
  • Be responsible for your own safety and the safety of your work colleagues.
  • Coach and mentor Permit Issuers and Authorised isolators on their key roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training including electronic and manual Permit to Work and isolation Systems/programs.
  • Ensure the Site Permit to Work and Isolation & Energy Control standards are always maintained and followed.
  • Manage Isolation Registration Sheet (IRS) development, approval, amendment, and secure storage of approved IRS.
  • Creates opportunities for people to work together to enable them to contribute to the business and learn from each other.
  • Developing, and implementing new improvements and opportunities.
  • Conduct Permit to Work and Isolation audits / FCCCs as required.
  • Regular field System Verifications (SV) with Senior management team (Managers) when required.
  • Facilitate and participate in regular shutdown planning and scheduling meetings, communicating all operational aspects of the shutdown both to the shutdown team and to the operations group
  • Ensure shutdown draft permits are reviewed for correct scope detail, associated permits and each permit has at least one of or a combination of JSEA, DJP, SWI or SOP accurately representing the scope of work.
  • Identify when a draft PTW requires rectification such as but not limited to; isolation details, splitting or merging of existing PTW, addition or removal of associated permits.
  • Walkdown proposed and existing isolations where required and provide additional information by way of P&ID’s, photographs, sequencing etc.
  • Request Rescue Plans of ERT as required.
  • During the planning phase ensure that all required isolation points are intact and where possible check they are correctly functioning. When found to be faulty escalate to repair or determine an alternate isolation point.
  • Review of late or emergent work forms to ensure all work is captured within the operations ramp down and isolation plan.
  • Maintain the shutdown cadence by updating the relevant planning, execution, and post shutdown milestones within the cadence.
  • Identify rectifications required with permits and ensure a timely and accurate turn-around is achieved in such activities.
  • Allocate appropriate isolations to each PTW.
  • Attend all required planning, improvement, and progress meetings relevant to PTW and isolations in both a day to day and shutdown capacity.
  • Ensure isolation hardware is available at each permit hut to be used and is in a fit and serviceable state.
  • Participate in shift changeovers to ensure the team is provided relevant information regarding shutdowns.
  • Regularly attend and contribute to the shift handovers/pre-start meetings.

Essential Criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have:

  • Certificate 3 in Resource/Metalliferous Processing.
  • 5+ years relevant work experience essential including Supervisor roles in a Mineral Processing Plant and Permit to Work System.
  • Mineral processing experience gained through previous employment in the Mining sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self – motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to details with good time management skills.
  • Strong active listening and interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution and training.
  • PNG Driver’s Licence – Class Six (6) essential.

The Requirements

  • This opportunity is open to PNG citizens and to those who are currently employed by Newmont.
  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
