The New Porgera Limited now invites applications from suitably qualified and experience candidates for Superintendent - Compliance & Financial Accounting.
About the role
Reporting to the Finance -Manager, the Superintendent - Compliance & Financial - Accounting will be responsible for leading the site’s compliance and financial accounting activities. This role manages compliance with internal and external audit requirements, external reporting while also being closely involved with the month-end close process and key financial accounting processes, including general ledger integrity, fixed asset accounting, and cash flow management. The Superintendent – Compliance & Financial Accounting leads a team of Financial Accountants, and ensures financial reporting is in line with company policies and the International Financial Reporting Standards. The incumbent will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity and transparency while supporting strategic financial initiatives.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and manage the financial accounting and compliance functions for the Porgera operation.
- Oversee preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with IFRS and statutory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, tax legislation, and regulatory obligations including audits, royalty, and tax filings.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring timely provision of audit materials and resolution of findings.
- Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, and period-end closing processes.
- Develop and implement financial controls, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
- Support the development of financial policies and ensure alignment with PNG legislation and corporate governance standards.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Provide guidance and training to the finance team on compliance, accounting standards, and internal controls.
- Assist in financial planning, risk assessment, and strategic projects as required.
- Oversee the metals accounting and revenue recognition procedures, including pricing adjustments, sales invoice reconciliation, and shipment coordination.
- Ensure accurate fixed asset accounting, including depreciation and asset capitalizations and disposals.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA).
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in financial accounting and compliance, preferably in the mining or resource sector.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and financial regulations applicable in PNG.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with strong team management and mentoring skills.
- Experience in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Pronto).
Desirable:
- Experience in a remote or FIFO mining environment.
- Understanding of PNG tax and mining legislation.
- Postgraduate qualifications in finance or business

Competencies and Skills
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial accounting, treasury management and audit processes.
- Business Partnering: Proven ability to build relationships with senior leaders and operational teams, drive financial accountability, and provide clear insights to help with decision-making.
- Leadership and Team Development: The ability to lead a develop a high-performing team, providing mentorship and ensuring strong accountability.
- Systems and Data Management: Proficiency in SAP FICO, Xeras, and OneStream, along with strong Excel skills for financial modelling and reporting process improvement.
- Internal and External Audit: Proven experience managing the external audit for a large organisation. Proven experience leading the internal audit function and development of fit for purpose financial accounting policies and procedures.
