Our Lihir operations in the Information Technology (IT) department is now recruiting for the position of Superintendent – Network Infrastructure to provide leadership in ensuring that site technology infrastructure, server, storage, data and voice networks, facilities, audio/video and related equipment are maintained, supported, optimized, and reliable in accordance with current Global Technology Operating Model. The position is responsible for ensuring the best possible user experience, shortest possible incident resolution time, and maximum service uptime through most efficient operation of the site network.

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Leads the site technology infrastructure team through the design, documentation and implementation and support of technology infrastructure (e.g. surface and underground wireless systems, servers, storage, voice and data network, virtual environment, backup/restore systems, wireless, fiber optics, two-way radio, air conditioning systems, active directory, etc.) to achieve the business objectives of the site.
  • Ensures that all aspects of Newmont Goldcorp’s technology site server and network infrastructure are supported and maintained to standards as applicable to the region and site.
  • Serves as the senior technical subject matter expert and guides the support and maintenance to standards as applicable to the site.
  • Collaborate with regional and global technology teams to ensure all mining and processing technology infrastructure is managed and maintained and provide reliable services at site.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the logical and physical infrastructure is designed and maintained to provide best possible user experience, shortest possible incident resolution time, and maximum service uptime for the region.
  • Responsible for the effective management of infrastructure technology issues, coordinates resolution and assists in driving issues to closure as well as escalates high severity issues and chronic problems to appropriate management and finally, provides timely follow-through with customers and peers on the infrastructure performance.
  • Manages multiple regional projects, leads project teams, responsible for project budgets.
  • Responsible for the support from the site to regional and global technology infrastructure projects, including definition of technology requirements, input and validation to designs, and oversight of local technology implementations.
  • Manage and oversee the design of the strategic integrated roadmap for core technology Infrastructure technologies including cloud, virtual environment, networks, telecom, datacentres, and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various business applications supported.
  • Ensure that Newmont’s policies, standards, procedures and methodologies are adhered to. Insist on and maintain a consistent high quality of work across all monitored and allocated tasks.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont Regional Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures. Consistently demonstrate and encourage safe work practices.

Essential Criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field
  • Network and CISCO certifications are required, MCSE certification essential.
  • MBA studies and Postgraduate are preferred.
  • 8+ years’ experience in networking, server infrastructure services or technical support role
  • 5+ years’ experience performing a mine-site based technology networking support role.
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • Broad knowledge of all technology considerations (performance, scalability, maintainability, deployment, operations, technology infrastructure)
  • Possess strong technology knowledge and understanding with deep skills in technology operations, customer relationship management and outsourcing vendor relationship management.
  • Proven ability to discuss voice and data network concepts and strategies in simple, clear terms to help drive and influence decision making of business and application owners.
  • Strong mix of business, functional, and technical skills
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, is self-driven, with a pro-active and strategic vision of Technology.
  • Ability to effectively plan and control projects.

The Requirements

  • This opportunity is open to PNG citizens and to those who are currently employed by Newmont.
  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir when required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
