About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. About the Role
Our Lihir operations NPI & OS Team is recruiting for the position of Superintendent Transport – Land & Sea for a FIFO role based onsite.
Reporting directly to the Manager NPI , the incumbent will lead and manage transportation operations, ensuring the safe and efficient mobilization of personnel to and from the site. This includes overseeing land and sea transportation modes such as buses, light vehicles, ferries, banana boats, and other relevant methods.
Essential Duties
The role will have responsibility to:
- Supervise transport teams, ensuring safe and efficient personnel mobilization across land and sea.
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations and safety protocols.
- Plan and coordinate schedules and logistics for integrated transport services.
- Oversee daily operations, maintenance, inspections, and safety audits.
- Manage performance metrics and budget allocations for transport activities.
- Resolve operational issues, maintaining high standards of reliability and safety.
- Provide leadership and guidance to transport team members.
- Identify and mitigate risks specific to transportation.
- Coordinate with external suppliers to optimize transport operations.
- Explain the team's purpose and its value to the business.
- Encourage team members to identify and address critical issues.
- Allocate work to achieve team goals and review performance.
- Recognize and reward good work, providing feedback and coaching.
- Collaborate with your manager to develop the team and its members.
- Foster an inclusive climate for collaboration and feedback.

Training & Experience
Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management or a related field; advanced qualifications preferred.
- Extensive experience in Personnel Logistics and Transport management, with a track record of increasing responsibility.
Proven ability to lead and develop teams effectively. - Strong skills in stakeholder interaction, influence, and conflict resolution.
- Advanced understanding of transportation management and scheduling techniques.
- Proficiency in Transport Optimization and Performance Metrics.
- Advanced understanding of transportation management and scheduling techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for optimizing transport operations and performance.
- Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with the movement and management of people.
- Competent in understanding and applying the latest technologies and innovations in people transportation.
- Knowledgeable in health, safety, environment, and sustainability regulations and best practices.
- Proficient in cost management and financial principles related to logistics.
The Requirement
- Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
