About this Role

We are seeking a driven, experienced and qualified Superintendent to join the Mine Asset Management team.

Reporting to the Manager Asset Management, you will manage a team and oversee the maintenance and operation of mobile assets, ensuring reliability, safety, and cost-effective management of welding and fabrication maintenance activities.

As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster and is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

In this varied role, your day-to-day key accountabilities will include:
  • Monitor the maintenance and operation of welding and fabrication activities on the mobile assets in both the workshop and various field locations.
  • Formulate and execute maintenance schedules to improve equipment availability and performance.
  • Assess downtime data and advise strategies to minimize disruptions in mobile asset operations.
  • Educate operators on safe and effective use of mobile equipment where it may impact structural or attachment integrity.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of spare parts and services.
  • Execute routine field and workshop inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental efforts to ensure mobile equipment availability.
  • Keep detailed reports on equipment performance and maintenance activities.
  • Implement cost-reduction initiatives for mobile asset management without compromising quality.
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours through visible leadership.
  • Support, coach and mentor Technical Specialists and Supervisors.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Your training, skills and experience checklist

Here is what we would need so see from you!

  • Extensive experience in boiler making, welding, fabrication and heavy machinery within large-scale mining operations.
  • Previous experience leading, coaching and mentoring teams with diverse skills and capabilities in a diverse cultural environment.
  • Experience with carrying out risk assessments, verifications and workplace inspections to ensure site standards and safe working environments.
  • Previous use of computerized maintenance management systems and SAP.
  • High level understanding of incident and investigation processes.
  • Boiler Making, Mechanical and Engineering Trade Certificates.
  • Formal Engineering qualifications is desirable.
  • A motivated problem solver dedicated to continuously improving their work environment.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building.
  • Be able to work a FIFO roster in PNG.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening.
  • Ability to satisfy all requirements for PNG Work Permit and Visa.
Working conditions and location

This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
