About the Role
The Supervisor – Community Affairs is a frontline leadership role responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily engagement activities of Community Liaison Officers (CLOs). The role ensures consistent, culturally appropriate stakeholder engagement and effective grievance management, supporting positive relationships between K92, landowners, and local communities. This position supports delivery of the Stakeholder Engagement & Issue Resolution Standard under the Social Performance Management System (SPMS).
Key Accountabilities
This role is responsible for supervising community engagement activities, managing grievances, and supporting the Superintendent in maintaining strong landowner and community relationships. Key responsibilities include:
Community Engagement Supervision: Coordinate and oversee daily CLO activities, allocate work across villages and stakeholder groups, and ensure professional, consistent engagement across the operation.
Grievance & Issue Management: Act as the first escalation point for unresolved grievances, ensure all issues are logged, tracked, and addressed in line with SPMS procedures, and support complex investigations as required.
Team Leadership & Development: Coach, mentor, and support CLOs, review field reports for quality and accuracy, and assist with recruitment, onboarding, and performance feedback.
Operational Reporting & Data Quality: Ensure accurate use of grievance registers, templates, and reporting tools; produce summaries of stakeholder feedback and emerging issues for management review.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with Land Access, Social Development, Business Development, and GIS teams to support integrated community engagement and information sharing.
Commitments & Expectation Management: Track delivery of engagement commitments, distinguish clearly between formal obligations and community expectations, and support transparent communication back to communities.
Mine Life Cycle Support: Maintain effective engagement across exploration, operations, expansion activities, and closure planning to protect K92’s reputation and social licence.
About You
To be successful in this role, candidates must have strong community engagement experience and the ability to lead frontline engagement teams in culturally complex environments. You will also demonstrate:
- Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Anthropology, or a related discipline, with at least 5 years of experience in community engagement roles, preferably in Papua New Guinea or Melanesia.
- Proven experience supervising field-based officers and managing community-facing work programs.
- Strong record-keeping and data management skills, with the ability to ensure accuracy and transparency in grievance and engagement reporting.
- High-level communication skills in Tok Pisin and English; local language capability is an advantage.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, fairness, and impartiality when working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Strong integrity, professionalism, and accountability, with the ability to manage sensitive issues calmly and respectfully.
