  • Maintain site registers for licensed electricians, authorised persons, safety observers and licensed electrical contractors.

  • Review electrical licences and personnel qualifications to confirm authorisation requirements are met.

  • Audit electrical workers to ensure they hold the correct competencies for the tasks they are completing.

  • Review inspection and test records to ensure required testing is completed before approving Notifications of Energisation.

  • Complete Certificates of Compliance and confirm installations meet AS/NZS 3000 and Newmont standards.

  • Lead or support electrical safety incident investigations, identify actions and ensure outcomes are implemented and documented.

  • Report serious electrical incidents to the Registered Mine Manager and meet site reporting requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance to electrical departments on site electrical specifications, standards and requirements.

  • Support Management of Change risk assessments for new electrical installations.

  • Attend punch list walkdowns to confirm new installations and alterations meet Newmont site specifications and relevant Australian standards.

  • Perform field critical control checks and ensure the workforce follows risk control and isolation processes.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Ability to obtain a PNG Power Authority Electrical Licence.

  • LVR/CPR certification.

  • Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules.

  • Detailed understanding of AS/NZS 3007 Electrical installations for mines, AS/NZS 4871 Electrical equipment for mines and quarries, AS/NZS 3012 Construction electrical, and AS/NZS 60079 Hazardous Areas.

  • Strong knowledge of high voltage safety, HV switchgear and protection systems.

  • Experience working within electrical safety management systems, high voltage safety management plans and site electrical standards.

  • Experience authorising electrical personnel, reviewing electrical licences and maintaining compliance records.

  • Strong incident investigation skills, including the ability to identify actions and ensure they are implemented.

  • Ability to liaise across electrical, maintenance, engineering, operations and leadership teams to provide technical clarification and guidance.

  • Strong coaching and communication skills, with the ability to develop team members through feedback, coaching and formal training.

  • Ability to work within approved budgets, manage variances and identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising safety or compliance.

Desirable experience includes IEPNG membership, PNG MRA Mine Electrician’s Certificate or the ability to obtain them. HV Switching Certificate, EEHA Certification, Radiation Safety Officer Certificate, and previous experience in a statutory electrical role within mining, fixed plant maintenance, high voltage, processing or heavy industrial environments will also be highly regarded.
