TB PEER COUNSELLOR

The Institute is headquartered in Melbourne with programs that operate across Asia, the Pacific and in Africa. This includes technical specialists, scientists and researchers based in our Melbourne office and international staff working through international offices in Myanmar and Papua New Guinea.

Burnet Institute is supporting TB education, counselling and patient support services in Papua New Guinea, where TB, drug-resistant TB and TB-HIV co-infection remain significant public health challenges.

We are seeking a qualified and motivated TB Peer Counsellor to join our team.

Position: TB Peer Counsellor

Duration: Full-time, fixed-term contract for 9 months

Location: Six-Mile Clinic, NCD PHA, Port Moresby.

The position will provide education, counselling and peer-support to people receiving treatment for TB disease and TB infection and their families. The role will also support referrals, community education, patient documentation and collaboration with clinical and TB program teams.

The successful applicant will have strong knowledge of TB, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, compassion and empathy, good organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A qualification in education, counselling, health or a related field and personal experience of TB are desirable.
