About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Purpose
As an Team Lead, Emergency Response, you’ll play a critical role in protecting people, property, and the environment. Your leadership and technical expertise will ensure our site is always prepared to respond effectively to emergencies—medical, fire, rescue, or hazardous materials.
As part of our team, you will
- Support and execute emergency response plans tailored to site-specific risks and regulations
- Maintain and inspect emergency equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Lead and participate in drills, simulations, and training sessions
- Deliver emergency response training to site personnel and ERT members
- Act as Incident Controller or delegate during emergencies
- Mentor and coach ERT members to build a high-performing, cohesive team
- Contribute to investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Represent Emergency Response in engagements with regulators, contractors, and suppliers
Prerequisites for your success in this role

Your work environment
You’ll be based on-site on a FIFO 28:14 roster, working within the Safety & Sustainability function. This is a hands-on role requiring 24/7 emergency preparedness, with responsibilities that span training, equipment readiness, and real-time incident response. You’ll collaborate closely with site management, operational teams, and external stakeholders including regulators and contractors.
