About the Role
PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Tutor – Soil & Water Engineering within the Department of Agriculture, School of Natural Resources, based at the Vudal Campus.
This entry-level academic role supports the delivery of undergraduate teaching and practical training in soil and water engineering, conservation, and sustainable agricultural systems. The position is strongly oriented toward fieldwork, laboratory support, and applied teaching, contributing to student learning through hands-on demonstrations, tutorials, and supervised practical activities.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Department, Agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of lectures, tutorials, and field-based instruction in Soil & Water Engineering and related disciplines.
- Support laboratory sessions, field demonstrations, and student practical training activities.
- Assist in supervising undergraduate students during fieldwork, research activities, and academic projects.
- Contribute to the development of teaching materials and practical training modules.
- Participate in applied research, extension activities, and consultancy aligned with sustainable land and water management.
- Support data collection, report writing, and presentation of technical findings.
- Ensure compliance with University academic policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards.
- Provide academic support and mentoring to students.
- Participate in departmental activities, meetings, and administrative functions.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Department.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Practical, hands-on experience in soil and water engineering, rural technology, or land and water management systems.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant technical or industry experience, preferably in tropical or developing country contexts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of soil and water conservation practices, watershed management, and sustainable agricultural systems.
- Ability to support field-based learning, technical demonstrations, and laboratory instruction.
- Basic research and report-writing capability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to academic service.
- Demonstrated mentoring potential and ability to support student development.
Salary Range
Tutor (Technical Instructor)
K36,288.00 – K55,632.00
(plus applicable allowances and benefits)
