THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNG UoT) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join the School of Applied Sciences as a Technical Officer in Applied Chemistry. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this vital role supports the academic and research functions of the department through the effective management of laboratory operations, technical instruction, and maintenance of scientific equipment including participation in the School’s external consultancy activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment for undergraduate and postgraduate chemistry practical sessions
- Provide technical assistance to academic staff during teaching laboratories and research experiments
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and assist with risk assessments
- Maintain inventory records and oversee routine calibration and servicing of lab equipment
- Assist in the procurement of laboratory supplies and consumables
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a laboratory-based technical role, preferably in an academic or research environment
- Proficiency in handling analytical instruments (e.g., spectrophotometers, chromatographs)
- Sound understanding of chemical safety procedures and inventory management
- Strong organizational and communication skills

Condition of Service
Technical Officer I/II PGK26,709 - PGK38,241 per annum
Domestic Market Allowance PGK1,200
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
