Job Description

Position: Technical Services Manager

Division: Support & Services

Department: Technical Services

Accountable to: Project and Development Manager.

Works Closely With: Building Supervisor, Engineering Supervisor, Electricians, Plumbing, and Welding units and Property Supervisor

Job Summary:

To lead the building, electrical, plumbing and engineering units of the College. This will be a supervisory role involved in both, maintenance of existing plants as well as construction of new buildings and infrastructure.

Goals

  • Planning, organising, facilitating and controlling the technical entities of the college to help managers and supervisors achieve their service and financial goals
  • Lead the Technical Services Department to a high level of delivery of technical services for the college departments and personnel
  • Ensuring that the Technical Services Department achieves its financial goals of breaking even by charging out work done as requested
  • Analysing present and likely technical demands in the various college units, and preparing reports on these as requested.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse with supervisors of the Building and Engineering departments the technical work outstanding
  • Plans and organises staff and equipment to accomplish the work that is needed
  • Ensures that parts, materials and supplies are ordered and available as needed to do the work
  • Ensures that staff is available to accomplish the work
  • Ensures that records are kept of all time, parts, materials and supplies used, and that these are charged out to customers where required
  • Advises Managers with balanced and sound technical advice
  • Continually examines ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all college technical departments
  • Identifies, investigates and proposes new opportunities to the General Manager, with justification.
  • Plans and works to meet the financial goals of the Technical Services Department by ensuring that chargeable work is charged out as appropriate.
  • Reviews the likely demands for future Technical Services.
  • Discusses these needs with General Manager and various Department Heads
  • Analyses these demands and prepares reports on the best way to meet these needs as requested

Key Performance Indicators

  • Quarterly Financial reports of actual achievements compared to budget allocation
  • Reports of technical improvements made
  • Ideas and proposals outlined and discussed with supervisors and managers
  • Reports of likely future demands
  • Reports of analysis of likely needs with recommended approaches to these, with estimated costs.

Qualifications

  • Previous experiences in building maintenance and construction, engineering, machineries, electric works and other technical supervisory roles.

Personal Qualities

-- Be a committed Christian affiliated with one of the churches or missions already served by C.L.T.C

  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Be able to live and work in a multi-cultural (predominantly Melanesian) community
  • Organized, methodical and responsible work habits
