About the Role

Our Newmont Lihir Gold mine operation is now recruiting a Technical Specialist – Mechanical to join the Mobile Fleet Maintenance – Shovel Pad team.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster where you will be working a combination of both day and night shift. This role is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

You will ensure equipment reliability across the drill fleet and ensure machines meet agreed availability and mean time between Failure targets through effective pre-release and asset condition inspections.

You will use your advanced technical maintenance expertise through providing on the job training, capacity building and skills transfer to our PNG National work group.

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Attend daily maintenance pre-start meeting.
  • Undertake isolation of plant and equipment.
  • Undertake maintenance activities in accordance with the schedule and short interval control board.
  • Monitor maintenance activities for safety, quality and productivity.
  • Perform on the job training, coaching and guidance to ensure that tasks remain on track and are completed to the highest quality.
  • Perform quality pre-release inspections.
  • Management of removed and returned components.
  • Review returned work package.
  • Management of quality equipment inspections to determine priority.
  • Continually monitor and escalate improvement opportunities within Field Maintenance equipment.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure company safety procedures, safe working practices and fatal risk management standards are followed.
  • Drives and influence proactive safety behaviours.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience working with Drills in a large-scale mining/mineral processing operation in similar roles.
  • Technical experience working on Heavy earthmoving equipment with hydraulic excavator/ Drill maintenance.
  • Experience engaging with National workforce and ability to foster individuals’ skills and capabilities.
  • Experience and sound understating of SAP and ERP systems.
  • Relevant Heavy Equipment Fitter, Diesel Fitter, Mechanical and/or Electrical Trade Certificate.
  • Planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building and training.

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Previous Expatriate experience working in a remote location.

The Requirements

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check.
