Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

About this Role

Reporting to the Superintendent – Mechanical you will provide technical training and development of team members consisting of Coordinator, Supervisors and Scaffolding technicians with a strong focus on site Scaffolding management. You will ensure optimum performance of plant equipment availability and reliability through trained and skilled workforce.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster. You will be working day shifts and shift work during the shutdown peak periods. This role is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.

Your role will consist of:

  • Deliver accurate and detailed training and development plan
  • Collaborate with Business Partners to ensure training is being delivered to Newmont standards
  • Provide governance through audits and verifications
  • Assists in the management of SOP creation, review, training and updates.
  • Ensure the team development plans, training system and processes are maintained
  • Develops team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training
  • Develop training plans based on annual Training Needs Analysis
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours
  • Delivers work within approved budget

Your training, skills and experience checklist

Here is what we would need so see from you!

Experience working in Training related roles in the mineral processing environments including large-scale fixed assets

  • Demonstrated Supervisory experience where you have coordinated and trained staff in a technically challenging and remote work environments
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning techniques to enhance the delivery of training and development of teams
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment essential
  • Advanced Scaffolding Licence (High Risk Licence)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building and training
  • Ability to apply audits and verification of competencies
  • Be able to work a FIFO roster in PNG
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening
  • Ability to satisfy all requirements for PNG Work Permit and Visa

Working conditions and location

This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
