NPL now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as a Technician – Underground Ventilations (241480).

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Drill and Blast Engineer, the Underground Ventilation Technician supports the planning, monitoring, and optimization of the underground mine ventilation system to ensure a safe, compliant, and productive working environment. The role involves conducting ventilation surveys, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining monitoring equipment, and assisting with ventilation planning and regulatory compliance.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct routine underground ventilation surveys, including airflow, pressure, gas, temperature, humidity, and dust measurements.
• Inspect ventilation controls such as stoppings, regulators, doors, seals, and ventilation fans.
• Verify that ventilation circuits operate according to approved ventilation
• Collect, record, and maintain accurate ventilation monitoring data.
• Prepare routine ventilation reports and trend analyses.
• Assist in updating ventilation models and mine ventilation plans.
• Support investigations into ventilation-related incidents or abnormalities.
• Assist ventilation engineers with short- and long-term ventilation planning.
• Support the implementation of ventilation changes associated with mining development.
• Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Underground mining induction and relevant site competencies.
• Experience working in an underground mining environment.
• Knowledge of underground ventilation principles.
• Ability to use ventilation monitoring equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and experience using ventilation software (e.g., Ventsim)

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately.
