Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Purpose

The Technician, Condition Monitoring will conduct condition monitoring and diagnostic activities to assess the health and performance of equipment, ensuring early detection of potential failures and supporting proactive maintenance to improve asset reliability and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties

  • Execute condition monitoring and diagnostic activities.
  • Assess collected data to detect anomalies and provide corrective actions.
  • Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure timely intervention and resolution of identified issues.
  • Maintain and administer condition monitoring tools and equipment to ensure data accuracy.
  • Prepare and report findings from condition monitoring activities for use in maintenance planning.
  • Execute inspections of critical equipment to evaluate operating conditions and potential risks.
  • Assist root cause analysis (RCA) processes to address equipment failures.
  • Deliver training to operational and maintenance staff on condition monitoring practices.
  • Monitor compliance with safety and operational standards during monitoring activities and report any non-conformance to Supervisor.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of condition monitoring programs.


Training & Experience

  • Trade qualified and/or holding a higher certification or degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in vibration data collection and analysis within heavy industry, preferably in a fixed plant environment.
  • Strong knowledge of complex rotating equipment, including maintenance strategies and fault diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability with a strong aptitude for resolving technical challenges.
  • Well-developed computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI.
  • Experience using SAP or similar Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Working knowledge of vibration analysis software is desirable.
  • Solid understanding of condition monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis, thermography, oil sampling and analysis interpretation, and non-destructive testing (e.g. ultrasonic thickness testing, dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection, laser alignment).
  • Class 6 PNG Driver’s Licence preferred but not essential.
