About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Our Lihir operations Site Technology Department is recruiting for the position of Technician – Mining System for a FIFO role based onsite.

Reporting to the Supervisor – Mining Systems, the incumbent will support the Mining Technology Systems Team by providing operational expertise to enhance mobile fleet reliability. Responsibilities include supporting integrated operational technology systems within the Open Pit Mine, such as Modular Dispatch 6, Collision Avoidance System, Epiroc HNS, Wi-Fi Network, Remote Control Technology, Driver Safety Systems, CCTV, Trunk Radio Communication System, and data/voice network infrastructure.

The role will have responsibility to:

• Promote and adhere to the Newmont Regional Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures, consistently demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices.
• Provide technical expertise in the installation and support of Mining Operational Technology (OT) Systems in a timely manner.
• Offer technical expertise to maintain these OT Systems and associated network infrastructure, ensuring optimal reliability and availability.
• Collaborate with global and regional teams to define policies and assume responsibility for regional and site implementation and compliance with policies related to technology infrastructure and operations.
• Ensure compliance with all state, federal (FCC), and national communication licensing requirements.
• Ensure adherence to the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, maintaining the required controls.

Essential / Desirable criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

• Trade Qualification in Communication.
• PNG Driver’s License Class 6.
• Network Communications Qualifications
• 3 + plus years of hands-on experience in Mining Systems technology support and Collision Avoidance Systems.
• Broad knowledge of mobile fleet technology communication systems.
• Strong technical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Self-driven with a strategic vision for Technology.
• Effective team player in diverse groups.
• Clear communication with all stakeholders.
• Consistent in delivering commitments and personal development.
• Proactively seeks cost reduction and reports wastage.

The Requirement

• Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
