About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Purpose
The Services Technician will operate the assigned sections of the process plant (Grinding circuits, flotations, thickener operations, flotation reagent preparations and mill reline activities) so that all Safety & metallurgical targets are met on a shift-by-shift basis.
Essential Duties
- Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring full compliance with all HSE policies and Fitness for Work standards.
- Perform tasks only when hazards and risks are clearly understood, working closely with Supervisors to confirm safe controls.
- Proactively monitor plant operations and implement strategies to minimise risks and maintain a safe working environment.
- Promptly report hazards, unsafe behaviours, and incidents in line with company standards.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse teams across departments to support operational success.
- Take ownership of your area, consistently delivering on commitments and maintaining high performance standards.
- Engage in ongoing development through training, shift handovers, toolbox talks, and team activities.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within the process plant at all times.
- Operate plant equipment in line with daily plans and inspections, identifying and escalating defects or risks as required.
- Ensure all shift activities—including inspections, operational tasks, and SOP adherence—are completed safely and in full compliance with environmental and company guidelines.
Training & Experience
- Prior experience in mineral processing
- Tertiary qualification advantageous.
- Certificates/Statements of Attainment in relevant metalliferous processing competencies highly regarded.
- Minimum level of Grade 10 education desirable.
- PNG driving License class 6
- Good verbal & written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
- High attention to detail with good time management skills.
- Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
This is a FIFO role on a 28/14 rotating roster.
