Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited by the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.
The Role:
Reporting to the Farm Manager, the incumbent will support PAU’s farm operations by safely operating tractors and related machinery to ensure efficient land preparation, planting, harvesting, and general farm maintenance and is required to perform the following ‘Core Responsibilities’ listed below.
Core Responsibilities:
- Operate tractors and farm machinery for ploughing, harrowing, planting, spraying, and harvesting.
- Conduct routine checks, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure machinery is in safe working condition.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety standards, including proper use of protective gear.
- Assist in preparing land for cultivation, irrigation, and crop rotation.
- Transport farm produce, inputs, and equipment within the University farm and to designated storage areas.
- Maintain accurate logs of tractor usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules.
- Work closely with farm staff, students, and supervisors to achieve operational goals.
About you:
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Minimum of Grade 10 completion; vocational training in agriculture or mechanics is an advantage.
- Valid driver’s license with tractor/machinery operation endorsement.
- At least 2 years of experience operating tractors or heavy farm machinery.
- Knowledge of farm machinery operation and maintenance.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols.
