The Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF) is the legal entity that manages community development benefits from Ok Tedi Mine operations on behalf of the people of the 158 Community Mine Continuation Agreement (CMCA) villages. OTDF is a safe, professional and innovative organisation that delivers projects to communities through a unique partnership between mining, the people and the government. OTDF is mandated to ensure wise and sustainable use of the wealth created from mining operations for the betterment of future generations of Western Province.

OTDF has three (3) current vacancies and seeks to engage dynamic, competent and qualified persons to be part of the team that is delivering development outcomes for the communities of Western Province. OTDF seeks to attract professionals who are committed, hardworking, loyal, honest and who possess good behaviours.

Trust Accountant

Responsible for OTDF Trust Administration business systems to drive continuous improvement in the accounting and procedures for each trust by broadening the understanding and application of accounting theory. Provide technical accounting support and development of fellow OTDF staff and assist in the development of efficient reporting system on Trust Matters.

  • Sound knowledge of Trust Accounting,
  • Fully conversant with Attache or any accounting software applications,
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements
  • Prepare monthly expenditure reports
  • Prepare quarterly management accounts and expenditure reports for presentation to the eight (8) CMCA Trust Meetings,
  • Preparation of annual financial statements
  • Facilitate all trust accounts to be audited by the external auditors,
  • Facilitate payment requests through the commercial banks on behalf of the Trusts,
  • Prepare GST Returns, Income Tax Returns and Tax Exemptions including other tax compliance issues,
  • Day to day management of Trust Funds currently invested in Term Deposits in the commercial banks,
  • Liaise with a Custodian company in relation to funds invested in government treasury bills and inscribed stocks,
  • Management of subsidiary companies accounts, tax and statutory compliance
  • Management of Women & Children accounts for the eight (8) women associations,
  • At least five years of experience in preparation of financial and management accounts.

The following skills, qualifications, work experiences and attributes preferred for this role are:

  • A university Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Commerce or other related discipline, a post graduate qualification and CPA is desirable
  • 5-10 years working in a natural resource development project in the primary industry sector dealing with landowners.
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable development projects & extension work
  • Demonstrated ability to network with a wide range of stakeholders including governmental and non-governmental organizations and aid donors.
  • Must have strong networking with both private and public sectors of relevant industries.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in rural communities with sensitivity to local cultures, priorities, and challenges, ensuring effective communication and sustainable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and proactively; must be a self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and drives results with minimal supervision. Track record of delivery community development projects
  • Understanding of different culture, community & environment issues
  • Demonstrated experience in tracking, analysing, and reporting operating costs to support effective financial management and cost control.
