Pacific Towing under Steamships Trading Company is actively seeking a highly skilled, results-driven, and experienced professional to join our team as a Tug Master. This position will be responsible for safe command and control of Pacific Towing Tugs. The successful candidate will be responsible for safe and efficient command and operate the tug during harbour movements in compliance with the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures and Regulatory Compliance.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role based in Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea. As a Tug Master, your responsibilities are:
- Read, understand and adhere to all company’s HSE policies, safe work procedures and practices at all times.
- Actively participate and lead the officers and crew of the vessel in all appropriate HSE activities such as attending tool box meetings, monthly safety meetings, safety observations, emergency drills, etc.
- Promptly report all incidents including near misses (unsafe acts and conditions) and hazard report notifications.
- To raise and complete Tug Daily Log Sheets and to arrange delivery to Administration daily.
- To ensure that the deck logbook is properly maintained whilst on out port service.
- Ensure the ISM Checklists are completed and returned to the office in accordance with ISM schedule.
- The safe and efficient operation of the tug and associated equipment to minimise any risk of damage to life, property and the environment.
- Shipboard management of company policy & ISM Code, and emergency drills in accordance with the code.
- Allocate duties to the crew relating to the operation and maintenance of tug, and ensure they are carried out.
- To ensure that all crew members, contractors and visitors, who board the tug are made aware of their duties and responsibilities, including action in the event of a ship board emergency.
Required Experience.
- Proven experience (at least 3+) years in ASD tugging experience.
Qualifications and Key Competencies
- Qualified Master Class , Class 2 or higher.
- Able to travel to meet company requirements
- Able to work long hours and be on call for urgent after hours requirements
- Proven leadership and coaching ability, and demonstrate sound work ethics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Sound reporting writing skills.
