JOB SUMMARY
The Welder is responsible for performing specialized welding, fabrication, and structural repair tasks on Express Freight Management’s heavy-duty vehicle fleet (trucks, trailers), Material Handling Equipment (MHE), workshop fixtures, and general property assets. This role requires expertise in various welding techniques to ensure the structural integrity, safety, and longevity of the company’s equipment and assets.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Welding and Fabrication:
o Perform high-quality welding across various processes, including but not limited to MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW), primarily on steel and aluminum used in heavy-duty applications.
o Execute custom fabrication and assembly of structural components, brackets, chassis reinforcements, and safety cages as required by the workshop or logistics operations.
o Repair cracks, breaks, and wear on heavy-duty vehicle chassis, trailer bodies, suspension points, roll-off containers, and MHE frames.
Repair and Maintenance:
o Conduct repairs on workshop infrastructure, racking systems, loading bay doors, and general metalwork within company properties.
o Cut, shape, and smooth materials using plasma cutters, grinders, torches, and other specialized tools.
o Liaise with mechanics and auto electricians to determine the scope of structural repairs needed for vehicles following damage or failure.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Skills
Welding Proficiency: Expert-level skill in multiple welding processes (MIG and Stick essential; TIG highly desirable) and experience working with thick gauge metals common in heavy-duty commercial transport.
Fabrication Skills: Strong ability to measure, cut, and assemble materials accurately and efficiently.
Blueprint Interpretation: Proficient in reading and translating technical drawings, schematics, and welding symbols into finished products.
Safety Awareness: Deep understanding of welding hazards and the strict application of safety protocols.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to quality control to ensure structural integrity and a professional finish on all repairs.
Qualifications
Recognized Trade Qualification/Certification as a Welder (or equivalent).
Minimum of 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in a heavy industrial, truck/trailer repair, or construction environment.
