WORKSHOP MANAGER – MT. HAGEN
The Mapai Group is seeking to recruit a dedicated and experienced WORKSHOP MANAGER to join our workshop team in Mt. Hagen, Western Highlands Province. Reporting to the Group Workshop Manager, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Mapai Hagen workshop, leading a team of technicians, and ensuring efficient and high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with line supervisors to ensure job card is issued for a check and submitted for recording within 24-hour period,
- Ensure line supervisors are accounted for proper record of repair, replace defective equipment parts, and assemble equipment,
- Progress-chase work, reporting any projected medium to long term delays in the workshop and other clients,
- Ensure line supervisors implement work plans, work instruction, safety procedures, departmental policies and procedures,
- Ensures that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S, electricians and mechanicals induction and training, operating procedures and emergency rescue procedures,
- Prioritise on-going technical training through continuous coaching of supervisors to have the opportunity to pass the knowledge to other staff down the line for skills enhancement,
- Ensure to manage apprenticeship training to ensure technical trainings are provided for the apprentices,
- Must maintain proper records and reports on all call-out services and maintenance for Mapai and other clients,
- Approve purchase requisition for spare parts and other related items,
- Ensure the purchases of parts and spares are within the approved cost,
- Ensure responsible supervisors give account of the use of tools and equipment.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum Certification of Heavy Fitting Diesel Mechanic or related,
- At least 5+ years’ experience in Workshop Management/Supervisory role preferably in the transport industry,
- Extensive experience and understanding of the transport operational systems,
- Must have excellent communication and decision-making skills,
- Must have high level of leadership skills with ability to motivate both self and others,
- Honest and ethical,
- Must be Computer literate.
