WORKSHOP SUPERINTENDENT

Position Overview

The Workshop Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all workshop operations, ensuring steel fabrication projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. This role reports to the Workshop Manager – Fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily workshop operations and production activities.
  • Coordinate fabrication schedules and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ensure all fabrication works meet engineering specifications and project deadlines.
  • Enforce safety standards and compliance with workshop procedures.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering and fabrication drawing, specifications, blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Good knowledges of welding practices, fabrication processes, quality control and workshop safety.
  • Conduct quality inspections on fabricated products and welding works.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop workshop personnel and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and servicing of workshop equipment.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients regarding project progress and resource requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or 12 Certificate.
  • Tradesman Certificate in Metal Fabrication & Welding or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in steel fabrication and workshop leadership.
  • Previous experiences as Workshop Supervisor, Superintendent and Leading Hand role
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding standards, and quality control
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication plans, and welding symbols
  • Familiarity with applicable AWS and/or AS/NZS standards
  • Strong leadership, planning, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy and production reporting capability
