The Stanley Hotel & Suites, Papua New Guinea’s premier 5-star hotel, is seeking a qualified and experienced Carpenter to join our Engineering Department. This role is vital to maintaining the quality, safety, and presentation of our hotel facilities, ensuring that our guests experience the very best during their stay.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Carpenter will work within the hotel’s policies and procedures and report directly to the Director of Engineering. The role involves carrying out all aspects of carpentry, furniture maintenance, and woodwork repairs within the hotel and its surrounding premises, ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standard, compliant with safety and building requirements, and aligned with the hotel’s reputation for excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform carpentry maintenance on hotel buildings, guest rooms, restaurants, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Undertake woodwork tasks such as trim work, stair layouts, door and window installations, and hardware fittings.
  • Inspect and repair hotel furniture, fixtures, and wooden elements to maintain a 5-star standard.
  • Work with carpentry tools, woodworking machinery, and materials with precision and care.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from departments and guests.
  • Assist in renovation, remodelling, and upgrade projects within the property.
  • Conduct daily inspections of public areas and guest facilities to identify carpentry-related issues.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety standards.
  • Maintain an organized workshop and proper inventory of carpentry materials and tools.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to support overall maintenance operations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in carpentry or a similar role, preferably within a hotel or commercial property environment.
  • Recognized trade qualifications in Carpentry.
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to read blueprints/drawings.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Professional presentation and a commitment to quality workmanship.
